What is Title Case?
Title case(also called headline style) is a capitalization convention used for titles of books, articles, songs, movies, and academic publications. Unlike simple capitalized case (which capitalizes every word), title case follows sophisticated editorial rules: major content words are capitalized, while minor grammatical words (such as "and", "the", "of", and "in") remain lowercase unless they are the first or last word.
Title Case Stop Words (Kept in Lowercase)
According to style guides like the Chicago Manual of Style and AP Stylebook, the following words are generally kept lowercase in title case:
a, an, theand, but, for, or, nor, so, yetat, by, in, of, on, to, with, fromFirst & Last Word Rule
Regardless of the part of speech, the first word and the last word of a title are always capitalized in title case. For example: "To Have and to Hold"(where the first "To" is capitalized because it opens the title).
